Yoga practitioner should follow the guiding principles given below while performing Yogic practices:
Guidelines for Yoga Practitioners:

Before Practice:

  • Cleanliness (Śauca): Essential for Yoga practice, encompassing the cleanliness of surroundings, body, and mind.
  • Calm Environment: Practice in a tranquil setting with a relaxed body and mind.
  • Empty Stomach: Perform Yoga on an empty or light stomach.
  • Boost Energy: If feeling weak, consume a small amount of honey in lukewarm water.
  • Empty Bladder and Bowels: Ensure the bladder and bowels are empty before starting practice.
  • Comfortable Setup: Use a mattress, Yoga mat, durrie, or folded blanket for the practice.
  • Appropriate Attire: Wear light and comfortable cotton clothes for easy movement.
  • Avoid Exhaustion: Do not practice Yoga when exhausted, unwell, in haste, or under acute stress.
  • Consult Professionals: Seek advice from a physician or Yoga therapist for chronic conditions or cardiac problems.
  • Special Considerations: Consult Yoga experts before practicing during pregnancy or menstruation.

During Practice:

  • Begin with Prayer: Start sessions with a prayer or invocation for a conducive and relaxed environment.
  • Slow and Relaxed: Perform Yogic practices slowly, with body and breath awareness.
  • Natural Breathing: Breathe through the nostrils unless instructed otherwise; avoid breath holding.

After Practice:

  • Post-Practice Bath: Take a bath only after 20-30 minutes of completing the Yoga session.
  • Post-Practice Eating: Consume food only after 20-30 minutes of completing the Yoga practice.
